Two open bars back to back and a billion or so blog reactions has left me hung over, stiff and computer-sick. But let me say just one thing in my defense: I do not use a dell, mofo.

Sweet. It must be entertaining to have so many people read your stuff.

fuck what anybody says

your article was the best thing i have read in a very long time

thank you

Comment by hunter

gotta say, your article was really negative and i read some really good critiques on the comment section.

hipsters stand for a lot of the stuff adbusters preaches (sustainable transportation, art and fair wages ala american apparel).

i want to like that magazine, but if it’s all like your article then i’ll pass.

i think we new it from the beginning,

surrounded by fuckin nerds.

Here’s what I don’t get: I know half the people in those photos, I wear Cheap Mondays, I own a Mac, I drink double espressos, eat charcuteries, and all those other arbitrary tokens of this so called dead end of western civilisation (Which btw, isn’t that what you always wanted?).

Yet..

I volunteered for Adbusters for 2 years, wrote a few letters etc. I have a stack of Adbusters in my loft (see!), i have an anti-corporate flag hanging off the exposed brick. I don’t have a credit card, I don’t drive a car, I write a daily political satire column, I participate in squats, march in whatever there is to march about.

So where do I fit?

What exactly has this article achieved? What good can come out of this?

my point confirmed ..

Comment by Jordan

Yeah Jordan, I’m a total nerd. Now there’s my point confirmed.

This article really makes me think of what really matters. And, how the Youth really need to rid itself of abidance and paltriness.

With complete respect to the article and the author: “hiptser”,”countercoulture” and similar words and meanings just don’t fucking matter.

Obviously, opinions and discussion about anything is good–this is just too much. All of This is extra–you don’t need–so treat as such.

Maybe I’m overexposing myself to This; reading too many related publications, or just being on the internet. But This is just to self-aware, loooking upon itself and judging seems futile. All the more practical would be to look on the outside of This.

cheers, mate. beautiful article. of course, you open yourself up to being accused of a self-loathing hipster (an oxymoron if ever there was one) or someone who couldn’t quite make it into that scene but fuck it. I’ve been waiting for an article like that.

“hipsters are sold what they think they invent” – i think this part where you talk about corporations co-opting youth culture and selling it back to them is an interesting article in itself as it pertains not just to hipsters

That’s very true Jeff, the Nike ID comes to mind off the top of my head.
