Like the collective visions of some fashionable techno-Haida lost in Harajuku, the illustrations of Edinburagh via Berlin via Vancouver artist Acorn are concise examples of disassociated splendor. With fine lines of pencil, ink and brush, the characters that flow forth from Acorn’s chosen mediums are immediately alive – soft-pedaling their dreamy naivety on an always unassuming viewer.

Currently enjoying the well priced wine of Barcelona, Acorn returns to Vancouver this April, much to the delight of freshness-starved Vancouverites who have been forced to make due with the day-old donuts of this city’s too-often stale and soggy art scene.

Be sure to check out the limited-edition (100 copies) “Ink Advance” which features a collection of drawings from Acorn, GhostPatrol & Miso.

Oh. I thought your site was about the NEXT level not the LAST level. This work is tad tired.

Hey juan b, sorry that I don’t use enough skater-slang for you to enjoy my blog. I didn’t realize that in order to share my opinion that it had to be the same as yours.

Comment by craig

is that a napkin>>>?

Comment by spongie

news flash: you could use all the slang the world has to offer, or speak in tongues, and still no one would read a blog about your personal life. again, step off.

I’m sorry that my feedback has brought about such a vitriolic response. I think that I wasn’t clear enough in my original post — it was a poor critique. To expand: This work is VERY WELL DONE with a great eye for detail. The commitment required to make some of these images is truly impressive. However, the images themselves don’t draw me in as a viewer. Before anyone tells me to ’step off’ again or tries to insult me personally, I’ll reiterate that this is merely one person’s opinion. I understand that other people like Acorn’s work (just like some people don’t like my blog). Perhaps if someone disagrees with me, they might try telling me what is important/special about this work so that I could expand my knowledge or alter my interpretation of this work — because in the end, I thought the comment section was to create a forum to discuss the work posted here, not to hurl insults.

Update: Although I stand by my response to the work posted here, I have found some other images of Acorn’s work that I think are beautiful. I was surprised to find myself thinking “I would love to hang that in my home”!

To tell you the truth. I think much of Acorns shit is whack as hell and generic in style. However, one cant dispute that the watercolor – although not technically the most advanced of his works – is totally awesome. Juan, mellow on the interrogation factor or at least link to your shit.

Comment by The Aesthetic Poetic

Just saw his work on the Juxtopoz site as well, very outstanding and original style, anything BUT generic.

Comment by marcus

I’ve been following Acorns work via flickr, fantastic stuff.

haha I just thought he made a stupid comment (”Oh. I thought your site was about the NEXT level not the LAST level”) that was sort of insulting to this blog, looked at his blog, and thought it was lame. the rest is history. basically, i was bored………and acorn’s art is awesome

P.S. don’t tell your superiors to fuck off when they give you directions, they might beat your head in.

Quite spectacular to see these pictures.. I have never in my life seen drawing like these and I have been almost all around the world. This is really something special and if it is available to me to buy, I will surely buy a couple of drawings! :)
